While working under Billy Martin’s Directorship as an InfoSec team member at Health Net, I witnessed a highly focused and strategic-minded leader who engaged the full strengths of his team, budget and resources to identify and implement large-scale initiatives that elevated both the security program and the staff supporting it. When Billy first came on board, he expeditiously integrated himself into the role by assessing team strengths, enterprise weaknesses, projects in-flight, problematic external relationships, etc…Billy’s astuteness, effective delegation and ability to work with staff as trusted advisors allowed for the space to not only achieve the organization’s pressing, cyclical demands – but to also pursue programs and goals set forth by Billy himself.
Billy did not come into the organization with a formulaic approach for improving the security program with preconceived notions. Rather, he gleaned from a combination of inputs (organizational structure, process maturity, metrics, workforce, vendors, etc) to deliver multiple accomplishments, while also taking the time to thoughtfully acknowledge his staff. Should our paths cross again in the future, I would absolutely welcome the opportunity to work with Billy again!
